      “저희가 마음에 하나님 두기를 싫어하매 하나님께서 저희를 그 상실한 마음대로 내어 버려두사 합당치 못한 일을 하게 하셨으니”(롬 1:28)

      ㅡ라는 이 말은 한마디로

      “내가 너희에게 자유를 주어 파멸케 하리라”
      ㅡ는 말에 해당하는 의미를 갖고 있다.

      이것은 역설적이게도 당대 ‘자유’의 전파자였던 바울이 자연법을 호출하여 소급해내고 있는 율법 전명제에 대한 석의로서,

      (동성애자를) 불로 태워죽이라는 식의 그 어떤 율법 조문보다도 더 강력한 자연법으로의 치환을 대표하는 석의다.

      특히 인상적인 것은
      저 구절에는 ‘마음’이라는 말이 두 번 나오는데,
      하나님을 두기 싫어 하는 공간으로 지목된 앞의 ‘마음’은 επίγνωσις 즉,
      ‘지식’이 쌓이는 공간이고,

      그 다음에 나오는 상실함이 들어찬 공간으로 지목된 두 번째 ‘마음’은
      νους 즉,
      ‘지성’이 들어차는 공간이다.

      내 생각엔 바울이 이 νους에 하나님의 영이 내려와 주거한다고 본 것 같다.

      * 그 공간이 텅빈 상실이야말로 우리가 가장 두려워 해야 할 징벌이기도 하다.
